Site Economics: Honeywell spends nearly $6 million each year for goods and services in the local community to support the operation of the Buffalo Research Lab. The company has invested more than $154 million since 2008 to support lab operations. In 2012, the lab paid more than $2 million in local property and payroll taxes, as well as $14.3 million to its employees in salaries and benefits. In addition to Honeywell’s own employees, the lab is responsible for numerous additional jobs related to security, engineering, construction, raw materials and services that support the lab. In addition to its lab operations, Honeywell has been working with South Buffalo Development under the jurisdiction of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to restore the former Buffalo Color Corporation’s manufacturing site along the Buffalo River. Allied Chemical, a predecessor company to Honeywell, formerly owned the site and sold it to Buffalo Color in 1977. You can learn more about these efforts here.
Site Investments: Since 2008, Honeywell has invested more than $17 million in the Buffalo Research Lab to support the development of its new low-global-warming refrigerants, propellants, solvents and blowing agents for insulation.
